Trees

200+ Year Old

Living Landmarks

Across Sheboygan are a handful of remarkable trees that have quietly witnessed more than two centuries of change. This map highlights trees estimated to be 200 years old or older—living landmarks that predate modern streets, buildings, and even Wisconsin statehood. Standing beneath them is a humbling reminder of how long a single tree can shape a landscape, provide habitat, and outlive generations of people.

Tree age estimates are based on DBH – Diameter at Breast Height, the standard way arborists measure tree size. DBH is taken at 4.5 feet above the ground and offers a consistent method for comparing trees across species. Larger diameters often suggest greater age, especially for slower-growing native trees. This is a working, evolving map, and community input is always welcome. If you know of an impressive old tree that should be included, measured, or documented, your observations help grow this project and preserve Sheboygan’s oldest living history.
